Nurture

What is the Nurture Ministry?

Deepening the spiritual life of our members is at the heart of St. Mark’s nurture ministries. These ministries provide the encouragement and nourishment each of us need to grow in faith and to serve Our nurture area includes small group studies, prayer and lay visitation ministries which facilitate opportunities to grow in Christ by caring for and supporting one another through Bible study, small groups, prayer and visitation.

Adult Ministry – Keeps the congregation informed about the hopes and concerns of adults of all ages and life situations in our community, address the concerns of adults in order to aid in their growth and understanding of the Christian faith.

Bible Studies

  • Disciple Bible Study Offers in-depth study of Christian scripture for the purpose of developing Christian believers and leaders.
  • Sisters Bible Study Weekly bible study for adult women. Utilizing narrative stories of New Testament women, students reflect on the ideas presented and record their thoughts and responses.
  • Weekly Bible Study There are a number of weekday Bible study opportunities. Those studies cover a wide range of subject matters.
  • Sunday School Runs concurrently with the 10:00 AM service. Children can be dropped off as early as 9:30 AM and picked up following the 10:00 AM service.

Book Table – Take a book, donate a book. The book table, displayed in McFarland Parlor on Sundays, provides a wide selection of fiction, non-fiction, spiritual, self-help, and personal growth reading materials. You can also find out about St. Mark’s latest book discussion groups at the book table.

Liturgical Dancers 

  • Anointed Steps of Praise – Ages 9 through 12
  • Cherubs – Ages 5 through 8
  • Exalted Praise -19 years old to adult 
  • Uplifting Praise – Ages 13 through 18

Member and Community Care:

  • Confirmation Classes Membership training for youth 12 – 14 years of age. 
  • Grief Support Reaches out to persons in need of support and prayer during times of loss. 
  • Family Ministries Addresses the concerns and conditions of families in our community in order to improve their quality of life and Christian growth.
  • Lay Visitation Cares for the spiritual needs of those who can no longer participate in regular church service and activities.
  • Nursery A safe haven and sanctuary where parents can leave infants while attending the 10:00 AM Sunday worship service
  • Stewardship A comprehensive program of stewardship education, inspiration and action that teach the meaning of Christian stewardship and provide opportunities for people to practice stewardship in their daily lives.
  • United Methodist Youth Fellowship (UMYF) This is our ministry for Middle to and to High School age children. They meet on a bi-weekly basis to study serve and worship. Their repertoire of activities includes service projects, fellowship activities, and discussions of relevant issues.
  • Vacation Bible School Two-week summer Bible and arts retreat for youth.
  • Wedding Coordinators Work with couples to arrange weddings and receptions.

United Methodist Youth Fellowship (UMYF) This is our ministry for and to High School age persons. They meet on a weekly basis to study, serve and worship.   Their repertoire of activities includes service projects, fellowship activities and discussion of relevant issues.

Worship Support Team

  • Acolytes Youth are encouraged to become an Acolyte and join our young people who lead the procession of ministers into the sanctuary at the beginning of service.
  • Altar Guild Assures the beautification and appropriateness of the altar dressing.
  • Baptismal Steward Assists the pastor during the Baptism service and insures that the baptized member’s name is added to church records.
  • Communion Stewards Prepare the altar and assist in serving Communion to the congregation.
  • Lay Liturgists/Announcers Read scripture and announcements during service.
  • Worship The chairperson of worship works cooperative with the pastor and music ministry leaders to provide the congregation with a workshop service that is spirit-filled and assists in strengthening their relationship with God.
